The PCM4EU (Personalised Cancer Medicine for All EU Citizens) initiative brought together participants for its final consortium meeting on November 27-29, 2024. The event, hosted at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, highlighted advancements in personalized cancer medicine in the project period and mapped the future of collaborative EU efforts within this field.
The three-day program began with a pre-working meeting focusing on revised procedures for data pooling. Key discussions revolved around tumor type definitions, biomarker identification, and statistical considerations of molecular diagnostics.
The conference officially launched on November 28 with a review of interim results and discussions on establishing a project independent of governance body for the consortium. Presentations underscored progress in diagnostics and treatments, the future of personalized cancer medicine, and the societal impact of the PCM4EU program across participating EU countries. Highlights includedncountry-specific overviews from Hungary, Lithuania, and Italy, among others, showcasing localized implementation strategies.
The event concluded on November 29 with an exploration of activities extending beyond the initiative's original scope. Participants reflected on the achievements of PCM4EU, summarized ongoing work, and outlined plans for the final report.
Attendees had the opportunity to network both during conference sessions, a formal dinner, and a museum tour, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among Europe’s leading oncology experts.
